Artist/Gallery notes

GALLERY: The entrance to Yallingup in the southwest of WA. This view will be familiar to anybody who has visited Yallingup, even though the town itself is behind the hill. It is a very calligraphic painting full of interesting lines and rhythms. There is an excitement and vitality about the work which makes it come to life in front of your eyes. ARTIST: "I have tried several times to capture this view of Yallingup and this is the first time I have been at all satisfied with the results. I remember that it was a very windy day and I sat in the back of our Nissan Patrol while my wife Angie read the newspaper and drank coffee in the front seat. I had to work very quickly using a broken old bamboo stick as a pen and thick black ink on paper. I scribbled an made marks all over the painting. Perhaps I was influenced by the chaotic movements of the wind and the spikiness of the Australian landscape. I finished the work in my studio and I hope that it says something about Yallingup on that day."
