Artist/Gallery notes
GALLERY: This painting was chosen by a respected Sydney based publisher of high quality art calendars to be included in their 2003 edition and I can understand why. It really is a Fauve painting which rejects the tame colours of reality and fills the eye with reds, yellows, golds and greens It is such an exciting painting compared with the thousands of tame and mundane landscapes that fill our galleries. It is a painting which is just full on there. ARTIST: "It didn’t start out to be so strongly colourful. This is a lovely area of the southwest and every time I visit it I want to paint it. It started out with a sketch in ink with a bamboo stick. I use this because it makes a crude and interesting mark which prevents me from getting too tight. Then as I coloured it with oil pastel it kept changing and getting redder and redder and red. Like most of my paintings I didn’t really control it, the painting controlled me."
