Artist/Gallery notes

GALLERY: The Hay Shed Hill Winery in the southwest of WA. A very pretty group of buildings beautifully integrated with the vines and trees through a soft and subtle interplay of colour and shape. ARTIST: "I have painted the Hay Shed several times simple because I love the clean and interesting lines of the white buildings and the surrounding trees. There was no plan to this painting, I just kept at it until it worked. Originally the paper was twice this size and the vines extended well down into the foreground at the bottom of the painting. I felt that this area of vines was too boring so I cropped it savagely by cutting the paper in half. The result was the painting in the exhibition. I threw the cast off bottom half into a corner of my studio and forgot about it. The funny thing was that when we were reviewing the paintings, my framer, Charles, found the cast off piece and thought that it was an original painting. He wanted to include in the exhibition but there wasn’t room. Perhaps it should have been. Perhaps next time."
