Artist/Gallery notes
GALLERY: The ubiquitous Red Hill, this time in those almost monochrome browns and blues. This is one of those few paintings which adequately express the West Australian bush. Somehow browns and blues are just the colours for Australia, echoes of the golden summers of Streeton in a harsher more burnt brown landscape of the West. Earth, ochres and iron staining. Dark recesses and straggly marks. A myriad of shapes a lack of perspective and a subtlety of presence. Above all presence. That feeling that crawls up your spine to tell you of the lives of the people who once were here, and before those people just the rocks.
