Artist/Gallery notes

In East Fremantle there is a congeries of jumbled buildings and trees which are almost sublime in the patterns they make. Paintings often take on a life of their own and control the artist. This work became whimsical in its accumulation of incident and the myriad activities of the edge of the river. From the crabs in the mud to the people in the sky. One of these is the grey dead man lying on his back at the bottom of the river. How he got there I don't know, but if it wasn't me it must have been the painting that decided on this particular piece of whimsy. The much lovely lady who bought the work was worried that she might find the dead thing disturbing, so I agreed to paint it out if this became a reality. In that case the dead man would be buried, which is not unusual as I often bury people in my paintings and sometimes in the sky.
